Identity in Christ
Look in the mirror, and what do I see?
What identity do I carry deep within?
Identity is everything. Identity means knowing who I am. And from identity comes belonging and purpose – knowing why I do the things I do.
One of the most wonderful things about being a Christian is in carrying a certain sense of identity, belonging and purpose. This is the joy of having a secure identity in Christ.
This certain identity comes from trusting the promise of God in the gospel. With a voice that does not lie, God tells me who I am, in Christ. And with the assurance of God Himself I know I am a beloved child of God, fully forgiven and fully adopted into His care. In Christ, I know I am filled with the Spirit of God, and am being transformed each day into the likeness of Jesus. In Christ, I know my purpose is to live as a child of God, walking in thankfulness, in His love and grace each day.
Colossians 3:2-4 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
This is the opposite of being lost. This is the opposite of purposeless and aimless living. This is the certainty of knowing who I am, in Jesus.
